PCR plates use a fast but inexpensive technique called polymerase chain reaction, which is to amplify or copy small segments of DNA. Often heralded as one of the most important scientific advances in molecular biology, PCR plates revolutionized the study of DNA to such an extent.

What is the structure of PCR reaction plate?

There are many components that go into PCR plate. PCR plates must be manufactured with high quality materials and standards, which are free of contaminants and inhibitors to ensure optimal performance.

PCR reaction plates have transparent ones and white ones, of which white is more suitable for the new type of real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR. PCR reaction plates usually have two components, that are, tubes and caps. The PCR reaction plates can be divided into four types, that are, non-skirted, semi-skirted, full-skirted and fast and low-profile PCR reaction plates. However, both semi-skirted and full-skirted PCR plates have barcodes for easy recording and tracking.

The tubes of PCR reaction plates range from 100ul to 200ul in polypropylene. The bottom of the tubes can be conical or round. The well bottom of PCR reaction plate is clear for maximum visibility. The tubes of PCR reaction plates are available in assorted colors with clear or black alpha-numeric lettering. The caps used on the PCR reaction plate is to seal the tubes when using PCR reaction plates in the PCR instruments.

What should be taken into account when buying a PCR reaction plate?

Whether you are in the market for PCR reaction plates, the integrity of your samples and reactions is paramount. One thing needs to consider is whether PCR reaction plates are manufactured in a certified clean environment. Some are not, which means that the PCR reaction plates could be contaminated during the manufacturing process, which would compromise the reaction. Although cleanroom manufacturing is an important consideration, it doesn't guarantee contaminant-free PCR reaction plates. This is because contaminants may leach out of the plastic PCR reaction plates. We recommend that the use of clear PCR reaction plates to avoid surfactants.

Sample vessels vary in the degree to which the inside surface of the PCR reaction plate. We are striving to minimize biomolecules adhering to the vessel walls. Most of the PCR reaction plates are coated, which is a nonbinding surface. But if you apply vigorous heat or shaking to the PCR reaction plates, the silicone coating can actually come off. This doesn’t necessarily inhibit the reaction, but it interferes.

What material and volume are you researching? How often will it be retrieved? Most PCR reaction plates are made from polypropylene, which works well for samples such as blood, plasma, DNA, and most liquids. However, if researchers are using organic compounds in the PCR reaction plates for a long time, impurities might leach from the polystyrene resin

What should be paid attention to when using PCR reaction plate?

The PCR reaction plate is available in transparent and milky white. Milky white PCR reaction plate is more suitable for new fluorescent quantitative PCR instruments that collect fluorescent signals on the top. But if the fluorescent quantitative PCR instrument is the bottom light source, it is better to choose transparent PCR reaction plates.

When using 96-well PCR reaction plates for fluorescence quantitative PCR experiments, it is recommended to use optical membranes to seal the wells of PCR reaction plates. First, press the film along the longitudinal direction of the 96-well PCR reaction plate and then laterally. Finally, press along the edge of the PCR reaction plate to seal it.

After adding sample, some small droplets will splash on the wall of PCR reaction plates. In addition, there will be some bubbles. Centrifugation is needed to remove the wall-hanging droplets and bubbles. Please use a dedicated PCR reaction microplate centrifuge to solve the above problems.
